Tools for Decision Making

Purpose:

This website provides supplemental resources for David Ammons and Dale Roenigk’s book, Tools for Decision Making, 3rd edition (Routledge, 2021). Here is what you will find:

  • Spreadsheets that show how the case examples in the book can be analyzed using Excel. These spreadsheets can be downloaded as functioning worksheets.
  • Templates for analysis of real world issues. Once downloaded, the worksheets on this website become templates for use in analyzing actual problems on the job.
  • Exercises. Questions posed on this website build upon the cases introduced in the chapters and take them in slightly different directions, giving you a chance to practice your new analytic skills using the Excel spreadsheets provided.

“By incorporating Excel instructions into the collection of analytic techniques presented in Tools for Decision Making, the authors have made this book a must have. Every local government researcher/analyst in the world has access to Excel, so this feature alone makes this text invaluable. The online Excel templates that accompany the third edition are a major selling point; their availability for student use and for subsequent use on the job make this book a necessity on one’s bookshelf.”

“The analytical tools described by Ammons and Roenigk demystify the management of complex organizations. This book can serve as your tool box of ideas and models for continuous improvement.”
